Blue Reflection Ray

Blue Reflection Ray was produced by studio J.C.Staff and released in 2021 as an expansion of the Blue Reflection franchise, which originated with the 2017 role-playing game developed by Gust. The series serves as an anime adaptation that builds upon the game's core themes of emotional expression and the magical girl genre, focusing on protagonists Hiori Hirahara and Ruka Hanari as they navigate the complexities of human sentiment within a surreal, mystical landscape.

The character designs were handled by Koichi Kikuta, who adapted the original aesthetic established by Mel Kishida for the video game. The visual direction aimed to capture the ethereal and fluid quality of the game's art style while translating its turn-based combat and social simulation elements into a linear animated narrative. Upon its release, the series was noted for its commitment to the atmospheric and melancholic tone characteristic of the wider Blue Reflection project, appealing primarily to fans of character-driven magical girl dramas.
