Where it came from
Bomberman Jetters was produced by Studio DEEN and first broadcast in Japan in 2002. It serves as an anime adaptation of the Hudson Soft video game series of the same name, intended to capitalize on the franchise's enduring popularity during the early 2000s by introducing a more narrative-driven, character-focused experience compared to the gameplay-centric titles.
The series was directed by Minoru Yamaoka, who aimed to integrate the iconic explosive mechanics of the games into a space-faring adventure format. While the show was designed for a younger demographic, it is frequently noted by fans for its surprising tonal shifts and character development, which helped distinguish it from typical tie-in media of the era.
