The fact that he used to be the charismatic leader of a legendary biker gang has turned into an urban legend; however, after starting a rivalry with the captain of the school baseball team, he and two former members, become their star players. But it's not long before his past catches up to him...

Where it came from
Bucchigiri was produced by Nippon Animation in 1989, emerging during a period when the studio sought to diversify its portfolio beyond its hallmark world-masterpiece theater style. The OVA served as a vehicle for the burgeoning fascination with high-octane delinquent culture, or yanki aesthetic, which permeated Japanese youth media in the late 1980s. The production aimed to distill the kinetic energy and rebellious spirit of the era into a concentrated, fast-paced format that reflected the experimental nature of the direct-to-video market.
The design and visual direction were crafted to emphasize a gritty, urban atmosphere that contrasted sharply with the studio's more pastoral works. Artists focused on sharp character silhouettes and dynamic action sequences, drawing inspiration from the stylistic conventions of street-level action anime. Upon its release, the project was noted for its departure from traditional narrative tropes, serving as a brief but distinct entry in Nippon Animation's eclectic experimental catalog.
