BULLBUSTER

Bullbuster is a 2023 television anime series produced by Studio NUT, based on the concept and light novel series created by Hiroyuki Nakao and P.I.C.S. The narrative centers on a small, struggling pest control company that finds itself fighting mysterious biological entities dubbed 'Kyojuu,' or giant beasts. The project was conceived as a unique blend of corporate drama and science fiction, emphasizing the logistical and financial realities of maintaining giant robot equipment while battling monsters in a blue-collar industrial setting.

The production design focuses on the juxtaposition of high-tech mechanical maintenance against the mundane challenges of a small business. Hiroyuki Nakao envisioned the series to highlight the professional pride and resourcefulness of a specialized team working outside the scope of military elite forces. Upon its release, the series was noted for its grounded, character-driven approach to the mecha genre, focusing more on the economic burden of ammunition and maintenance costs than the typical heroics associated with the category.
