Where it came from
Bungo Stray Dogs: Walking Alone was produced by Studio Bones and released in 2017 as an original video animation (OVA), serving as a supplemental installment to the show's second season. The episode was designed to flesh out the backstory of Doppo Kunikida and his former partner, Katai Tayama, grounding the high-stakes supernatural narrative in the earlier, more intimate history of the Armed Detective Agency.
The animation was directed by Takuya Igarashi, who aimed to maintain the series' signature blend of stylized action and literary-inspired character drama. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans for its focus on character development and the expansion of the franchise's world-building, effectively bridging the gap between the established arcs of the main series.
