BUTA

Buta is a 2012 animated feature film produced by Telecom Animation Film, emerging during a period when the studio sought to expand its original storytelling capabilities beyond its traditional role as a high-quality production house for international collaborations. The film represents a stylistic departure, favoring a distinct, hand-drawn aesthetic that prioritizes fluid character movement and whimsical, pastoral world-building over the more rigid industrial animation standards of the time.

The film was directed by Hiroshi Hoshi, who focused on crafting a visually evocative narrative that draws upon folklore-inspired themes and character designs that feel both retro and timeless. Upon its release, the film was noted by critics for its gentle pacing and unique artistic direction, though it remained a niche entry within the studio's portfolio, largely celebrated by animation enthusiasts who appreciate Telecom's commitment to maintaining traditional, labor-intensive craft in an increasingly digital era.
