Where it came from
Busted! Darklord was produced by the Chinese digital platform Bilibili, emerging from their growing commitment to developing original domestic animation during the late 2010s and early 2020s. As an ONA (Original Net Animation), the series was crafted specifically for streaming distribution, reflecting a shift in how Chinese studios utilize digital-first formats to reach younger, internet-savvy audiences with stylized, fast-paced narratives.
The production leans into a vibrant, comedic fantasy aesthetic that balances traditional tropes with modern, self-aware humor. While the project is characterized by its distinct digital art style, the design process for such Bilibili originals is typically driven by internal studio teams aimed at creating visually punchy content that fits the fast-scrolling consumption habits of their platform's user base.
