Where it came from
Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez Season 2, released in 2024, serves as the direct continuation of the Divinez arc within the long-running Cardfight!! Vanguard multimedia franchise. Produced by studio Kinema Citrus, the series maintains the franchise's tradition of integrating complex trading card game mechanics with character-driven narrative arcs. The production was developed to deepen the lore surrounding the 'Destined One' units, continuing the shift toward more personalized, high-stakes battle sequences that define the modern era of the anime series.
The design and animation direction emphasize Kinema Citrus’s signature high-contrast style, which is intended to mirror the aesthetic of the physical card illustrations. By focusing on the emotional growth of the protagonist, Akina Myodo, the showrunners aimed to balance the rigorous demands of the game’s competitive ruleset with the dramatic storytelling required to engage a broader audience. Upon release, the season was received by fans as a critical expansion of the Divinez world-building, cementing its place in the extensive Vanguard canon.
