Where it came from
Caressing the Nipples of My Hibernating Bear was produced by Studio Houkiboshi and released in 2022 as an original net animation. It emerged as part of the studio's broader commitment to experimental short-form storytelling, which often pushes the boundaries of traditional narrative structures within independent Japanese animation. The title and content represent a deliberate subversion of conventional themes, aiming to evoke a surreal, sensory-focused experience rather than a traditional linear plot.
The project reflects the distinct, minimalist aesthetic often associated with Studio Houkiboshi, favoring atmospheric tone over expansive world-building. Designers behind the work focused on tactile, intimate visual sequences to immerse the viewer in a specific, quiet environment. While it remains a niche entry within the studio’s portfolio, it was noted by animation enthusiasts for its unconventional title and deliberate, slow-paced approach to character interaction.
