Where it came from
The HibiChika Special was produced in 2012 by Studio Lerche as a supplement to the Carnival Phantasm series, which itself served as a celebratory tenth-anniversary project for the visual novel company Type-Moon. This special episode focuses on the characters Hibiki Kohaku and Chika Homurahara, who originated from the spin-off manga series 'Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya' and were reimagined within the comedic, meta-fictional framework of the Phantasm universe.
The design and animation direction were handled by the creative teams at Lerche, who aimed to maintain the frantic, slapstick energy that defined the main Carnival Phantasm run. The episode is characterized by its lighthearted subversion of the often grim lore found in the core Fate franchise. It was received by fans as a niche but charming epilogue, praised for its willingness to highlight supporting characters who had previously occupied the periphery of the main storylines.
