Carol is the tale of a teenage girl whose life seems normal enough until she notices music disappearing from all around her, such as the sound of Big Ben, her father`s cello-playing, and the concert of her favorite band, Gaball Screen. After hearing some mysterious voices, Carol is transported to a fantastic world where she must fight against the evil monsters who are stealing the music from Earth. She meets and is assisted by three dashing heroes: Clark, Tico, and Flash.

Where it came from
Carol was released as a single-episode original video animation (OVA) in 1990 by the studio Magic Bus. Directed by Takashi Anno, this production emerged during a period of experimentation within the Japanese animation industry, where studios frequently explored standalone science fiction narratives with high production values intended for the burgeoning home video market.
The animation centers on a young girl in a futuristic, dystopian city who discovers an alien life form, reflecting themes of childhood innocence set against cold, industrial environments. The design aesthetic draws heavily on the late 1980s and early 1990s cel-animation style, characterized by detailed backgrounds and character designs that prioritize atmospheric storytelling over complex world-building.
