Where it came from
Released in 2010 as part of the long-running Case Closed Magic File series, this OVA was produced by Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions to coincide with the theatrical release of the fourteenth feature film, The Lost Ship in the Sky. These Magic Files were established as a supplementary initiative for fans, offering short, self-contained mysteries that maintained the stylistic sensibilities of the main anime series while providing a bridge between major cinematic events.
The episode features the signature character design of Gosho Aoyama’s creation, focusing on the comedic and investigative dynamics of the core cast in an Osaka setting. The creative direction aimed to blend the show's hallmark deductive tropes with local cultural elements, specifically the culinary traditions of the Kansai region. It was received as a lighthearted companion piece intended for dedicated viewers who appreciated the series' ability to balance high-stakes detective narratives with casual, regional character vignettes.
