Case Closed Magic File 5: Niigata - Tokyo Omiyage Capriccio

Released in 2011 as part of the Case Closed Magic File series, this specific entry, Niigata - Tokyo Omiyage Capriccio, serves as a promotional short film tied to the theatrical release of the fifteenth franchise film, Quarter of Silence. These Magic Files were produced by Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions as direct-to-video accompaniments, intended to provide fans with lighthearted, character-focused narratives that sit outside the primary mystery arc of the long-running series.

The animation and character design for the short adhere to the established visual style of the Case Closed television series, prioritizing continuity for the established fan base. The narrative functions as an extended epilogue or side-story, focusing on regional cultural elements—specifically the travel culture of Omiyage, or souvenir gifting—which grounds the mystery in the domestic setting of Japan. While these shorts are not considered essential canon, they are received by collectors as vital historical artifacts of the franchise's ongoing expansion during the early 2010s.
