Where it came from
Released in 2014, The Fugitive Kogorou Mouri is a specialized original net animation (ONA) produced by TMS Entertainment as a tie-in to the long-running Case Closed, or Detective Conan, franchise. This installment was created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the series, focusing specifically on the character Kogorou Mouri, a fan-favorite whose comedic incompetence and occasional flashes of brilliance serve as a narrative foil to the protagonist, Shinichi Kudo.
The production leans into the series' signature blend of slapstick humor and mystery tropes, utilizing the established character designs created by Gosho Aoyama. As an ONA, the project was intended to reach digital audiences and provide supplemental content for established fans, receiving moderate attention for its focused character study and its departure from the traditional feature-length film structure.
