Where it came from
Cells at Work!!, the second season of the popular anime series, was produced by david production and released in 2021. The series is based on the manga by Akane Shimizu, which anthropomorphizes the cells within the human body to educate readers on biological functions. This season continues the narrative of a naive but industrious Red Blood Cell and her stoic counterpart, a White Blood Cell, as they navigate the recurring physiological crises of their host body.
The production maintains the visual hallmark of the franchise, utilizing a vibrant color palette to differentiate between various types of cells and pathogens. By balancing educational content with action-oriented storytelling, the creative team sought to make complex immunological processes accessible and engaging. The adaptation received praise for its ability to distill intricate biological concepts into compelling character arcs, building upon the established success of the 2018 debut season.
