Chanto Kao ni Kaite Aru

Chanto Kao ni Kaite Aru is a Japanese children's song and animated segment produced by NHK, originating from the long-running educational variety program Minna no Uta. Introduced to teach young viewers about facial expressions and the ability to convey emotions, the piece reflects NHK's commitment to creating didactic, accessible media that blends simple animation with catchy, repetitive melodies. It emerged as part of a post-war effort by the network to foster emotional literacy in children through public broadcasting.

The visual design and animation for the segment emphasize clear, exaggerated character movements and bright color palettes intended to hold the attention of a preschool audience. By focusing on the direct link between human expressions and internal states, the illustrators utilized a minimalist aesthetic that became characteristic of NHK's daytime programming. Upon its debut, the song was well-received by Japanese educators and parents for its gentle, effective approach to socializing children into recognizing social cues and the physical manifestation of feelings.
