Where it came from
Chichibu de Buchichi is a short-form ONA produced by TMS Entertainment and released in 2018. The series was created as part of a regional promotion for Chichibu, a city in the Saitama Prefecture of Japan, designed to highlight its unique cultural appeal and natural scenery to a younger, anime-savvy demographic. By blending local tourism marketing with the accessible, lighthearted style of contemporary digital animation, the studio aimed to foster a stronger connection between the region and domestic travelers.
The animation style and narrative approach reflect the collaborative effort between local tourism boards and studio animators to distill the essence of Chichibu into brief, engaging vignettes. Although the project operates on a smaller scale than traditional feature-length anime, it is recognized for its clean, expressive character designs and atmospheric backgrounds that characterize the region's distinct geography. It serves as a thoughtful example of how municipalities have utilized niche digital storytelling to modernize their outreach programs.
