Haruma Kawagoe is an only child. A long time ago, at Christmas time, his mother miscarried the child that was to have been his baby sister. That night, young Haruma knelt down and offered up an earnest prayer: "Please make my mother well again, and please give me a little sister." Years have passed, and Haruma has nearly forgotten his prayer. But Santa hasn't.... one Christmas, when Haruma is least expecting it, he gets an unusual present - his sister.

Where it came from
Chocotto Sister was produced by studio diomedéa and aired in 2006 as a television anime series. It was based on a manga series by G.G. Factory, which explored the premise of a young girl suddenly appearing to live with a man who had long wished for a younger sister. The narrative belongs to the slice-of-life and comedy genres, a popular sector of anime production during the mid-2000s that focused on lighthearted character dynamics.
The animation was directed by Yasuhiro Kuroda, with character designs adapted for the screen by Masakazu Ishikawa. The aesthetic reflects the soft, bright visual style common to the era's light novel and manga adaptations, prioritizing a gentle tone intended to highlight the playful interactions between the siblings. Upon its release, the series was received as a straightforward, modest contribution to the 'imouto' subgenre, valued by audiences for its sentimental tone and character-driven episodic structure.
