Common World Domination

Common World Domination refers to the recurring, satirical motif found in late 20th-century speculative fiction and pop culture media, most notably within the trope of the 'megalomaniacal villain.' It emerged as a shorthand for absolute political and territorial control in pulp literature and early cinema, often serving as a narrative device to establish high stakes between the protagonist and their antagonist.

The conceptual design of this trope is characterized by its over-the-top, theatrical ambition. Creators utilized the idea of global subjugation to critique geopolitical anxieties of the era, presenting it as an absurdist goal that highlights the moral rigidity of the heroic archetype. It has been widely received as a staple of campy storytelling, evolving from a serious threat in early works to a playful, self-aware clichè in contemporary comedies.
