Where it came from
Committed RED is an animated short produced by Production I.G, released in 2010 as part of the promotion for the video game Sengoku Basara 3. The studio, known for its high-caliber work on projects like Ghost in the Shell, utilized this project to bridge the gap between historical drama and the high-energy, stylized aesthetic of the Sengoku Basara franchise. It serves as a narrative prologue, focusing on the character Ishida Mitsunari to establish his motivations and temperament prior to the events of the game.
The production reflects the studio's signature approach to character-driven action sequences, characterized by fluid animation and sharp, angular designs that emphasize the intensity of the characters. By leaning into the dramatic, somewhat theatrical tone inherent to the series, the designers aimed to capture the tension of the warring states period while maintaining the supernatural flair expected by fans of the IP. The work was generally well-received by the existing player base for successfully translating the game's momentum into an engaging cinematic format.
