Where it came from
Corpse Princess: Kuro, specifically the Even So, As a Person special, was produced by Studio GAINAX in 2009 as a direct continuation of the Shikabane Hime: Aka series. The project, based on the manga by Yoshiichi Akahito, follows the life of Makina Hoshimura, a girl resurrected as an undead warrior tasked with hunting down other corpses. This special serves as an extension of the broader narrative arc, maintaining the dark fantasy aesthetic and intense action sequences that defined the GAINAX interpretation of the source material.
The design and animation direction for this installment were handled by the team at GAINAX and feel, who aimed to emphasize the gothic and tragic elements of the heroine's existence. The narrative focus remains on the psychological toll of her duty, reflecting the series' exploration of morality and the value of humanity. Upon its release, it was received as a somber companion piece that deepened the character development of the main cast while adhering to the established visual style of the preceding episodes.
