Where it came from
Cutey Honey F was produced by Toei Animation and aired from 1997 to 1998, serving as a reimagining of Go Nagai’s iconic 1973 manga series. This iteration was developed to align with the late 1990s magical girl aesthetic, shifting the tone toward a more traditional shojo audience while retaining the core premise of Honey Kisaragi, an android who gains the ability to transform into various personas to battle the evil Panther Claw organization.
The character designs for this series were handled by Miho Shimogasa, who adapted the provocative original visuals into a sleeker, more commercially accessible style common to the era's popular anime hits. While the series faced scrutiny from purists due to its departure from the mature themes of the source material, it remains a notable example of Toei's strategy to revitalize classic properties for a new generation of younger viewers.
