Where it came from
Dallyeola Hani, also known as Run Hani, was produced by Daewon Media and first broadcast in South Korea in 1988. Based on the popular manhwa by Lee Jin-ju, the series was created during a period of rising interest in domestic animation and sports-themed narratives, capturing the resilience of its young protagonist, Hani, as she overcomes personal and athletic challenges to become a track star.
The character design and visual direction were deeply influenced by the original manhwa aesthetic, aiming for a relatable, earnest style that resonated with South Korean youth. Upon its release, the series became a cultural milestone, noted for its emotional depth and iconic soundtrack, and it remains a touchstone of 1980s Korean animation history.
