Dance in the Vampire Bund

Dance in the Vampire Bund was produced by the studio Shaft and aired in 2010, based on the long-running manga series by Nozomu Tamaki. The narrative centers on Mina Tepes, the queen of all vampires, who reveals her species' existence to the world by using her immense wealth to pay off the national debt of Japan in exchange for the establishment of a sovereign vampire enclave off the coast of Tokyo. This premise serves as an exploration of xenophobia, societal exclusion, and the complexities of coexistence, set against the backdrop of an urban fantasy landscape.

The animation direction for the series is notable for reflecting the distinct stylistic signatures associated with studio Shaft during that era, characterized by experimental framing and dynamic character designs. While the series sought to adapt the dark, action-oriented tone of the source material, it was met with mixed critical reception at the time of its release. The adaptation is often discussed in the context of the studio's broader portfolio, highlighting the challenges of translating the elaborate visual language of Tamaki's manga into a television format.
