Dangaizer 3

Dangaizer 3 is a three-episode original video animation (OVA) series released in 1999 by the studio KSS. The production was heavily influenced by the classic Super Robot genre of the 1970s and 1980s, functioning as a nostalgic homage to the era of giant pilotable machines and space opera narratives. It was created during a period when the mecha genre was undergoing a shift toward more psychological or deconstructive storytelling, making Dangaizer 3 a relatively traditional, straightforward entry that focused on high-stakes action and cosmic conflict.

The series was directed by Masami Obari, a prominent figure in the mecha animation industry known for his dynamic and highly stylized action sequences. Obari, who also contributed to the mechanical and character designs, sought to emphasize the visceral, heroic nature of robot combat through his signature fluid animation style. While it was well-received by fans of the classic giant robot aesthetic, critics noted that it served as a niche tribute rather than an attempt to innovate, ultimately solidifying its place as a quintessential example of late-90s retro-styled mecha animation.
