Dead Mount Death Play

Dead Mount Death Play is a dark fantasy anime series produced by the studio GEEKTOYS, which premiered in 2023. The project serves as an adaptation of the manga series written by Ryohgo Narita and illustrated by Shinta Fujimoto. The narrative centers on a legendary necromancer who, following a final battle with a hero in his own world, finds his soul reincarnated into the body of a recently deceased youth in modern-day Shinjuku, blending supernatural intrigue with urban crime drama.

The animation direction by GEEKTOYS sought to capture the distinct tonal shift between the high-fantasy prologue and the grounded, gritty atmosphere of the series' primary setting. The production is characterized by its complex character designs and the challenge of balancing occult themes with contemporary mystery tropes. Upon its release, the series garnered attention for its unique premise and its departure from typical isekai tropes, though it received mixed feedback regarding the pacing of its intricate plot.
