Where it came from
Decorations, a short film produced by Geidai Animation, emerged from the rigorous academic environment of the Tokyo University of the Arts. It was created as a thesis project within the university's highly regarded animation department, which emphasizes individual artistic expression and experimental storytelling techniques over commercial mass-market production.
The film is characterized by its distinct visual language, which often leans into abstract or surrealist imagery, a hallmark of the Geidai curriculum. It reflects the meticulous, hand-crafted approach championed by the studio's alumni, focusing on the fluidity of movement and thematic depth rather than traditional narrative structures, and it has been noted by critics for its technical precision and emotional resonance within the independent animation circuit.
