Where it came from
Deep Insanity THE LOST CHILD was produced in 2021 by the animation studio SILVER LINK. as part of a larger multimedia project by Square Enix, which also included a manga series and a mobile game. The project was designed to create a unified narrative experience set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious illness known as Randolph Syndrome emerges alongside a massive underground realm called Asylum, prompting humanity to explore the depths to find a cure.
The visual design and production were aimed at establishing a dark, atmospheric tone, drawing on science fiction and psychological horror tropes typical of the late-night anime broadcast landscape. While the series attempted to build a complex lore across its varying media formats, it was met with a nuanced critical reception, often noted for its ambitious premise and world-building efforts, even as it navigated the challenges of cross-platform storytelling.
