Chu Sheng, a street punk, accidentally stumbles into the world of cultivation. Hoping to latch onto an immortal sect to easily counterattack and win at life, he discovers instead that the "Nine Laws of Ascension" is a psychotic evil art that uses living people as nourishment. The future world has long since been refined into a land crawling with evil spirits, and even Chu Sheng himself, a Heavenly Dao Walker with the ability to "merge all things", is nothing more than a spare ration for the immortals.
Gathering a group of absurd teammates, he travels to the future to purge the evil spirits, using his Heavenly Dao abilities to clash head-on with evil arts in blood-and-flesh combat filled with nonsensical humor. The path to ascension offers only one chance of survival in ten thousand. Want to become an immortal? Survive tonight first.

Where it came from
Deng Xia Jiu Fa, or The Nine Methods of Deng Xia, emerged from the Bilibili animation studio as an ONA adaptation of popular Chinese web literature. Produced in the early 2020s, the project reflects the platform's ongoing strategy to cultivate homegrown intellectual property by transforming serialized online fiction into high-quality digital animation, appealing to a domestic audience familiar with the xianxia and cultivation genres.
The production design centers on a blend of traditional aesthetics and modern digital compositing, aiming to evoke the epic scale typical of Chinese fantasy while maintaining the fluid, rapid-fire pacing expected of internet-native releases. Directed and illustrated by teams tasked with balancing visual fidelity to the original text with the limitations of a short-form episodic format, the series was received primarily as a niche visual expansion for existing fans of the source material.
