Dengeki Daisy

Dengeki Daisy, adapted from the long-running shōjo manga by Kyousuke Motomi, was brought to the screen by Studio DEEN as a television series in 2027. The project aimed to capture the complex tonal shifts of the original source material, which blends lighthearted high school romance with the high-stakes intrigue of computer hacking and corporate espionage. By moving the narrative into a contemporary animated format, the studio sought to emphasize the emotional connection between the protagonist, Teru, and her mysterious benefactor, Daisy.

The character designs were developed to maintain the iconic aesthetic established by Motomi’s manga, balancing the softness of classic shōjo tropes with the sharper, more modern lines necessary for an action-oriented narrative. The adaptation was designed to appeal to both long-time fans of the manga and new viewers, focusing on the atmospheric tension created by Daisy’s anonymous text messages. Upon its release, the series was generally received as a faithful interpretation that managed to ground its more dramatic, suspense-heavy elements within the familiar and heartwarming structure of the original series.
