DIABOLIK LOVERS OVA

The Diabolik Lovers OVA, titled Haunted Dark Bridal, was released in 2015 as a companion to the popular otome game and anime franchise. Produced by studio ZEXCS—noting that while Production I.G has been involved in high-profile industry work, the animation for this specific series was handled by ZEXCS—the OVA was created to expand upon the dramatic, gothic narrative of the Sakamaki brothers. The project emerged during the peak of the franchise's popularity, aiming to offer fans a more contained, cinematic look at the characters outside of the standard television series format.

The design of the OVA maintains the dark, high-contrast aesthetic established in the original visual novels, emphasizing moody lighting and sharp character designs that reflect the series' supernatural vampire themes. Upon its release, it was received primarily as fan service for the existing audience of the franchise, serving as a bridge between the different game iterations and the anime adaptations. Its reception was largely centered on the continuation of the series' signature psychological tension and the return of the established voice cast.
