The Doamaiger D anime will center around Daijirou Kyougoku, the 15th generation owner of the Kyoto sweets shop Amashoudou. One day, Daijirou discovers a giant robot named Doamaiger D in his store's basement. At the same time, enemies called "Mekaijuu" (a combination of the words mecha and kaijuu or monster) appear in Kyoto and begin wreaking havoc.
This retro-style throwback is a romping adventure with a sweet setting! In a traditional Japanese sweets shop in Kyoto works Daijiro Kyogoku, the latest young successor in a long line of sweet shop owners. One day, Daijiro finds a giant robot in the shop’s basement called Doamygar-D. Now, villanous robots are on the loose, and the hero we need is Doamygar-D…a candy-making mech?

Where it came from
Doamayger-D was produced by the studio ILCA and released in 2015 as a niche television series. It was conceived as a deliberate homage to the 'super robot' anime genre of the 1970s, specifically utilizing a distinct, retro aesthetic intended to evoke nostalgia for classic mechanical design and storytelling tropes common in that era's Saturday morning programming.
The production sought to replicate the charm of traditional cel animation and the dramatic flair of vintage mecha narratives, even as it was released in an increasingly digital-forward landscape. It was received primarily by a dedicated segment of fans who appreciate stylistic pastiches, serving as an experimental project that highlights ILCA's interest in navigating the intersection of historical genre conventions and modern production methods.
