Where it came from
Dochamon Junior emerged in 2015 as a successor to the original Dochamon series, produced by the Japanese studio CALF. The project was designed to expand the franchise’s reach into the educational and children’s entertainment sector, utilizing a distinctive mixture of live-action puppetry and digital animation. The series focused on the whimsical adventures of the titular characters, aiming to create a gentle, surreal aesthetic that resonated with younger television audiences in Japan.
The creative direction behind the series was heavily influenced by the collaborative efforts of the CALF studio team, who sought to refine the complex character designs of the first iteration for a more streamlined, approachable presentation. While the series was developed with specific production constraints, it was received as a charming evolution of the brand, noted for its consistent visual identity and the technical precision required to integrate physical puppets with computer-generated backgrounds.
