Where it came from
Doggy Poo, released in 2003, is a stop-motion animated short film produced by Itasca Studio. Based on the 1996 Korean children's book of the same name by Kwon Jung-saeng, the story serves as a philosophical fable about self-worth and purpose. It follows a pile of excrement that struggles with its perceived lack of value until it eventually discovers its true calling by nurturing a dandelion to life.
The film was directed by Kwon Oh-sung, who utilized claymation to translate the book's poignant, often somber themes into a visual medium. Despite the unconventional protagonist, the project was recognized for its earnest attempt to explore cycles of life and sacrifice within a Christian allegorical framework. It gained international attention as a unique entry in the genre of existential children's literature adaptations, noted primarily for its ability to treat a challenging subject with gentle, meditative sincerity.
