Dokgotak: Taeyang-eul Hyanghae Deonjyeola

Released in 1987, Dokgotak: Taeyang-eul Hyanghae Deonjyeola (Dokgotak: Throw Towards the Sun) stands as a prominent entry in the long-running animated film series centered on the titular character, Dokgotak. The character was originally created by cartoonist Lee Sang-moo, whose work became a cornerstone of South Korean comics during the 1970s and 1980s. This specific iteration in the film series captured the era's fascination with sports-themed narratives, framing the protagonist's personal growth against the backdrop of baseball culture.

The film was produced during a period when the South Korean animation industry was increasingly adapting popular print manhwa for the silver screen. The design and visual direction aimed to retain the distinct, rugged aesthetic of Lee Sang-moo's original illustrations, characterized by sharp lines and expressive, determined facial features. Upon its release, the film was received as a cultural touchstone for domestic audiences, reinforcing the character's legacy as a symbol of perseverance and youthful spirit in contemporary Korean animation history.
