Where it came from
Doraemon: Nobita's Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi was released in 2017 as the thirty-seventh feature film in the long-running anime franchise. Directed and written by Atsushi Takahashi, the film represents the series' focus on delivering high-concept, adventurous narratives that blend science fiction elements with the core interpersonal dynamics between Doraemon and Nobita, aiming to appeal to both lifelong fans and a new generation of viewers.
The film's visual design sought to balance the classic aesthetics of the Fujiko F. Fujio original character designs with expansive, atmospheric depictions of glacial environments. Upon release, it was noted for its departure from traditional settings, utilizing the Antarctic landscape to explore themes of environmental discovery and ancient mystery. It was well-received for its narrative scope and emotional depth, maintaining the franchise's tradition of character-driven storytelling.
