Douluo Dalu: Shenhai Mojing

Douluo Dalu: Shenhai Mojing, also known as Soul Land: Deep Sea Magic Mirror, was produced by Sparkly Key Animation as a spin-off expansion within the expansive Soul Land franchise. Emerging during the height of the series' transition into a dominant multimedia property in China, this ONA was crafted to broaden the world-building of the Soul Land universe by exploring the mysterious Deep Sea continent. It sought to leverage the established high-fantasy aesthetic of the core series while experimenting with self-contained narrative arcs that could appeal to both loyal followers and new viewers.

The visual direction for the project aimed to maintain the high-fidelity 3D character modeling and fluid combat choreography that defined Sparkly Key Animation's work on the main Soul Land saga. The design philosophy emphasized distinct, oceanic-themed armor sets and environment aesthetics to differentiate this installment from the terrestrial settings of the mainline series. Upon its release, the project was received as a stylistic addition to the franchise, lauded by the animation community for its technical polish and its role in fleshing out the expansive lore written by Tang Jia San Shao.
