Where it came from
Dragon Ball Z: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans was originally released in 1993 as a two-part interactive strategy guide and anime feature for the Nintendo Famicom. Produced by Toei Animation, the project was intended to serve as a companion piece to the console game of the same name, providing a cinematic narrative that bridged the gap between game sequences. The storyline centers on the vengeful Dr. Lychee, the last survivor of the Tuffle race, who launches a plot to destroy the remaining Saiyans using 'destron gas' machines.
The character designs and animation followed the established aesthetic of the Dragon Ball Z television series, though the project is notable for its unique status as an 'outer story' rather than a canonical entry in Akira Toriyama's main manga sequence. While the original interactive VHS format was a niche experimental venture, the film was later remade in 2010 with updated animation and voice acting, which helped cement its status as a cult classic among fans of the franchise's expanded universe.
