Where it came from
Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' was released in 2015 as the nineteenth feature-length film in the Dragon Ball franchise. Produced by Toei Animation, the film serves as a direct follow-up to the 2013 installment, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. It was developed to expand upon the modern era of the franchise, reintroducing the iconic antagonist Frieza through a new transformation, Golden Frieza, to challenge the evolved power levels of protagonists Goku and Vegeta.
The screenplay was written by Akira Toriyama, the creator of the original manga, who took a much more active role in this production than in previous films. Tadayoshi Yamamuro directed the project, aiming to blend classic high-octane martial arts sequences with updated digital animation techniques. Upon its release, the film was noted for its commercial success in Japan and its role in bridging the gap between the end of the Z series and the launch of the Dragon Ball Super television anime.
