Where it came from
Durarara!! x2 serves as the second major arc in the anime adaptation of Ryohgo Narita's light novel series, following the conclusion of the initial adaptation by Brain's Base. This installment saw the production transition to Studio Shuka, a company established by former staff members specifically to continue the series under the direction of Takahiro Omori. The narrative maintains the show's signature fragmented, multi-perspective storytelling style set in the chaotic Ikebukuro district of Tokyo.
The visual identity of this arc builds upon the established character designs of Suzuhito Yasuda, known for his distinct, sharp aesthetic that balances urban realism with stylized, supernatural elements. Upon its 2015 release, the series was received as a faithful continuation that successfully navigated the complex, interwoven plot lines of the source material. It is noted for its ambitious structural approach, which divides the narrative into three distinct cours—Ten, Ketsu, and Ketsu—to accommodate the sprawling scale of the light novel's events.
