Where it came from
Eevee and Colorful Friends is an original net animation, or ONA, produced by The Pokémon Company and released in 2013. It served as a theatrical short preceding the feature film Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened. The short was created to showcase the expansion of the Eeveelution line, specifically highlighting Sylveon, which had recently been introduced to the franchise as the first Fairy-type evolution of Eevee.
The animation was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama, a long-time pillar of the Pokémon anime production team. The visual style retains the clean, bright aesthetic consistent with the mid-XY generation era of Pokémon media. It was designed primarily as a lighthearted, character-driven piece aimed at younger audiences, focusing on a celebratory, whimsical gathering of Eevee and its various evolutions, and it remains a recognized entry in the extensive catalog of Pokémon short films.
