Entotsu-machi no Poupelle: Yakusoku no Tokei-dai

Entotsu-machi no Poupelle: Yakusoku no Tokei-dai serves as the 2026 feature-length sequel to the successful 2020 animated film adaptation of Akihiro Nishino’s picture book series. Produced by Studio 4°C, the film continues the narrative set in the soot-covered town of Chimney Town, expanding on the themes of faith, industrialization, and the struggle to see the stars beyond the thick, ever-present smog. This installment specifically focuses on the symbolic and literal mystery of the clock tower, weaving together the established lore of the previous film with a new exploration of the town's history.

The design philosophy reflects Studio 4°C’s signature dedication to highly detailed, painterly backgrounds and a distinct, textured aesthetic that mimics the original illustrations of the source material. By maintaining the collaborative creative leadership of Nishino and the technical prowess of the studio’s animation team, the film aims to deepen the emotional landscape established in the first entry. Upon its 2026 release, it was received as a continuation of the franchise’s visual storytelling, noted for its emphasis on atmosphere and its deliberate expansion of the Poupelle universe's mythos.
