Erlang Shen: Shenhai Jialong

Erlang Shen: Shenhai Jialong, also known as New Gods: Yang Jian, was produced by Tyhoo CG and released as part of the Light Chaser Animation New Gods universe. The film reimagines the traditional Chinese mythological figure Erlang Shen within a blend of steampunk aesthetics and classical folklore. This creative direction was intended to modernize the Nezha and Yang Jian legends, positioning them within a visually dense, high-fantasy framework that highlights advanced 3D character animation and intricate world-building.

The film was designed to bridge the gap between traditional Chinese epic storytelling and contemporary international cinematic standards. By focusing on a nuanced, melancholic portrayal of the titular protagonist, the studio sought to provide a more introspective character study than previous adaptations. Upon its release, the project was noted for its technical polish and ambitious art style, receiving significant attention for its expansive portrayal of the afterlife and its departure from established tropes in the animated genre.
