Where it came from
E's Otherwise was produced by Studio Pierrot and aired in 2003, emerging during a period when the studio was heavily involved in adapting manga titles for television. The series is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Yuuki Saku, which explores themes of telekinesis and specialized human abilities within a dystopian society. The anime adaptation was directed by Masami Shimoda, who sought to translate the manga's dark, atmospheric tone and character-driven narrative into a cohesive broadcast format.
The production design reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of early 2000s anime, utilizing a mix of traditional cel-style animation transition and early digital compositing techniques. Upon its release, the series was received as a niche entry in the sci-fi action genre, noted by audiences for its exploration of internal struggle and moral ambiguity. While it did not reach the broad mainstream saturation of other Pierrot productions from that era, it remains a recognized example of the studio's diverse output during the early 2000s.
