After traveling to what appears to be a true Tang Dynasty world, the main character Ning Que discovers that it is actually a perilous agricultural world. He first believed that he could become superior and live a luxurious lifestyle, but he discovers that he lacks cultivation skills. He was also persecuted for thousands of miles and saw his entire family massacred when he was four years old. He discovered the baby Sangsang while he was running away from death and picked up a black umbrella in a sea of blood and dead. He discovered the will to live in despair. He takes the large black umbrella and Sangsang and launches an exciting counterattack, refusing to submit to fate.

Where it came from
Ever Night, produced by Wonder Cat Animation, emerged as a notable entry in the original net animation (ONA) format, a medium that has increasingly allowed independent studios to bypass traditional television broadcasting constraints. The project was conceived to explore atmospheric storytelling within a digital-first distribution model, aiming to reach a global audience through streaming platforms rather than scheduled cable slots.
The visual direction for the project reflects the studio's focus on fluid character animation and deliberate pacing. By prioritizing hand-drawn aesthetics in a digital era, Wonder Cat Animation sought to differentiate the series from more common, highly processed digital styles. The work received critical attention for its tonal consistency and serves as a representative example of the studio's broader commitment to refined, character-driven narratives.
