Kimi to Boku (You and I) is the story of an aspiring mangaka and his cat, told from the cat's perspective. It follows the friendship between the cat and the young man from when they first meet up to when they must part.
Note: The first version was released to the public in 2001, since then there have been version upgrades, possibly with additional animation or simply improved quality. The English version also contains a prologue about the history of the Tanabata festival, making it much longer.

Where it came from
The Everlasting Heart, released in 2001, is an original net animation (ONA) that emerged during the early experimental phase of web-distributed anime. Produced as a short-form digital project, it reflects the burgeoning interest in the late 1990s and early 2000s in utilizing the internet as a primary medium for non-theatrical storytelling, bypassing traditional television broadcast models to reach a global, niche audience.
The piece is characterized by a minimalist aesthetic typical of its era’s limited animation techniques, prioritizing atmosphere and emotional resonance over complex movement. While its technical production was modest by industry standards, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts for its place in the transition toward decentralized media, representing a time when creators sought to explore the artistic potential of the burgeoning digital frontier.
