Evidence

Evidence, a tabletop role-playing game supplement and narrative expansion, emerged during the mid-1990s as part of a trend toward atmospheric, investigative gaming modules. Created to provide gamemasters with structured frameworks for mystery and noir-themed campaigns, it was designed to bridge the gap between abstract storytelling and concrete physical handouts, such as maps, forged letters, and faux-police reports that players could manipulate during sessions.

The design aesthetic was heavily influenced by the gritty, minimalist sensibilities prevalent in independent press publications of the era. The creators focused on high-contrast black-and-white layouts and period-appropriate typography, aiming to immerse players in a specific mood rather than relying solely on mechanical rules. While it was well-received by a niche segment of the hobbyist community for its commitment to thematic integrity, its reach remained limited to dedicated tabletop circles who prioritized narrative depth over traditional combat-heavy gameplay.
