Examurai Sengoku

Examurai Sengoku emerged in 2009 as a collaborative project between the dance and vocal group Exile and the animation studio TMS Entertainment. The series was conceptualized to bridge the gap between J-pop celebrity culture and anime, reimagining the members of the group as samurai warriors in a fictionalized version of the Sengoku period. This narrative approach allowed the studio to integrate music and stylized action sequences, reflecting the high-energy performance style of the group during that era.

The production utilized a mix of traditional cel-style animation and digital effects to capture the dramatic, historical-fantasy aesthetic favored by TMS Entertainment at the time. Character designs were heavily influenced by the physical personas of the Exile members, with an emphasis on heroic proportions and intricate period-inspired weaponry. While the series was primarily targeted at the group's established fanbase, it remains a notable example of the trend in the late 2000s toward celebrity-driven multimedia franchises in Japanese television.
