Where it came from
Fairy Tail Series 2, which launched in 2014, marked a significant transition for the long-running anime adaptation of Hiro Mashima’s manga. Following the conclusion of the first series in 2013, production duties shifted from a collaborative effort between A-1 Pictures and Satelight to being spearheaded solely by A-1 Pictures alongside Bridge. This period of the story covers the Grand Magic Games arc and subsequent storylines, focusing on the guild's effort to regain its status as the strongest in the Kingdom of Fiore.
The production shift resulted in a noticeable evolution in character designs and color palette, aiming for a more modern and vibrant aesthetic compared to the original 2009 series. The creative team focused on elevating the animation quality for the series' frequent high-stakes magical battles. While the series faced scrutiny from purists regarding the changes in visual style, it was widely received as a faithful continuation of Mashima’s world-building, maintaining the core themes of found family and camaraderie that define the franchise.
