Where it came from
False Memory was produced by the independent animation studio Flint Sugar as an original net animation, serving as an experimental foray into non-linear digital storytelling. Released during a period when independent creators were increasingly utilizing web platforms to bypass traditional broadcast constraints, the project was crafted to explore themes of identity and cognitive distortion through a minimalist, stark visual aesthetic.
The animation was helmed by a small team of digital artists who favored a desaturated palette and fluid, dream-like character movements to emphasize the subject's unreliable narration. Upon its release, it garnered interest within niche animation circles for its technical ambition, though it remained a largely underground work that prioritized stylistic cohesion over mainstream narrative conventions.
